Today is my maternal grandmother's birthday.  Her name was Laurette Desjardins. She would have been 99 years old. Every year, my mom sends out an e-mail to me and my brother, reminding us that it's her birthday.

Every year, it leaves me nostalgic because I never really knew my grandmother.  She died when I was only two years old.  My memories of her are patchwork at best. The rooms were small, with only a single bed, a reading chair, a desk and a sink. First team:  Parliament Security.  Parliament is a big place  where Canada is run, and it's nested on a Hill.  Quite pretty.  Their  security team, incidentally, is also referred by some as the RCMP.  Check out the Parliament of Canada.

Once back at Laurier, I made a vow to try harder.  I'd made it this far, and it seemed silly to give up now, just because of a language barrier.  So I strapped down, visited the writing centre, talked to my teachers, got used to people screaming "pamplemousse" at me once they heard my accent (and stopped asking "excuse me?"), and joined clubs to meet new people.
